Dear all,
Is it just yorkshire or has the rest of the world gone mad.
We in Scarborough have always had the odd day when we had a high throughput and patients
lying on trolleys due to lack of beds in the hospital. Because it was rare, we had little support
from the rest of the Health Economy when the Emergency Collaborative was in existance.
Since autumn we have seen the "bed blocking" that has been comonplace in the big cities and
was the cause of the ESC in the first place.
Since Christmas we have been inundated and now 20% breaches due to lack of bed spaces is
almost routine. I understand that Hull and York are also suffering and I have heard from
Rotherham that things went bad over christmas. Is it just local or is it all over the country?
I note that the Government haven't been crowing about the 98% target that was due to be
announced during the first week of Jan and the measuring week has been shifted to the last
week.
Did anyone see the Trevor Mcdonald thing. Our CEO was forced to play the party line and did
very badly, but I note that the programme did not pick up several leads from patients where
they said that the departments were full.
The film crew when they came round had a definite motive: to show that we were
intentionally doing stupid things to achieve the targets. Most places, us included, don't
actively prevent ambulances unloading to achieve targets, we do it because we have nowhere
to unload them. Why don't we if the ESC has worked?
Is it just us being bad or has it gone ****'s up everywhere?
