Dear All,
I might well be missing the obvious but we are getting an increasing volume of questions about the management of impaired fasting glucose (IFG) or impaired glucose tolerance (IGT).
Queries arise on how to deal with these patients once either of these conditions has been recognized for instance:
1. How often should tests be repeated to monitor progression to diabetes?
2. Should all people with IFG then have an OGTT? If so should this be the case every time the IFG status is monitored?
3. What advice should be offered to patients on lifestyle issues?
4. Should clinicans consider medication?
There appears to be little literature out there - which is a pain when trying to answer a question.
Does anyone know of any guidelines or any other body of 'evidence' that might help answer these questions (even if work is in progress)?
I'm not actually interested in the specific answers to the questions as these have been dealt with.
Best wishes
jon
