Hi,
What a coincidence - Anders Ödman, a colleague of mine here in Lund, was just asking about mule and donkey shoes on a medieval site. Perhaps you could help. This is his question:
"Shoes on donkeys and mules? In an archbishopric castle in southern Sweden, is together with horseshoes found two horseshoe shaped iron pieces (70x70x3-4mm) with three nail holes. They are called heel irons in the catalogue but around 1200 AD the shoes were made of soft leather and had no heels. Might it be donkey shoes? Did they ever put shoes on hoofs of that small size?"
Please answer directly to me, I'll pass them on to Anders.
