Dear Zooarch,
I'm working on a 3 year grant (years 2006-2009) to examine animal use
in the Roman provinces around the Mediterranean. From previous
fieldwork, I have a pretty good grasp of the zooarchaeological situation
(where Roman materials are concerned) for most of the area, save for
Turkey and the Eastern Mediterranean coast. If there is anyone who
specializes in (or even dabbles in) Roman zooarchaeological materials
from these areas, and would like to contribute to this
circum-Mediterranean project, please let me know.
In addition, graduate students interested in assisting with the
analysis of faunal materials from Roman contexts in Carthage (Tunisia)
and Athens (Greece), please get in touch with me as well, since I'll be
requesting funding for student involvement as part of this project.
Best wishes,
Michael MacKinnon
