Dear Elan,
Yup, I have a wolf cranium (stained a strange orange color) from a
AD 1st c. pit-house in an area where Roman soldiers first established a
foothold in the territory of what was to be Aquincum (provincial capital of
Pannonia Inferior). These pit-houses are located just south of the Military
amphitheater of the Military Town surroundingthe legionary fortress. The
cranium has chopping marks through the occipital condyles - where the
skull was detached from the body. I have also assumed that this must be
part of the signifer of a Roman soldier because otherwise this is the only
wold skull which has been discovered in Roman levels in Hungary.
