I wasn't going to post about this until September, but since the debate is
raging, I'd like to mention our collaborative sci-art project
http://www.artafterscience.com/randomness/index.htm in which scientists are
asked how their professional experience has affected their personal view of
life. I posted about this a couple of months ago when there were only three
interviews, we now have 10, another two will be up shortly. Several people
contacted us via the original posting.
As the debate has centred around the popularisation of science and science
communication to the wider public, we hope this is is an example of how it
can be done in an engaging way. The piece examines how objective or
subjective scientists' opinions are, if any threads or common ground start
appearing, if the juxtaposition of images (context) affects what they are
saying, and, ultimately, the relationship of science to being human.
Barbara Zanditon [log in to unmask] is conducting the interviews, mostly
over the phone, and they take, on average, 15-20 minutes. We have no strict
definition as to what a scientist is or isn't, but generally we'd like them
to have a science degree and have professional experience in science or
science related field.
Many thanks.
