The design of this study means that volunteer bias is not a problem - which is
just as well. Academic work in the social sciences would never be done if we
needed levels of funding necessary to pay professional recruiters!

>Subject: [PSCI-COM] The psychology of advice - Advice needed
>
>
>Hi List,
>
>I am science communicator who several years ago "crossed over" to doing
>research myself.
>
>I was wondering if list members could suggest ways I might get publicity to
>attract participants to take part in a study I am doing on the psychology of
>advice. The problem is that it is a bit of a thin story because I can't give
>away much information about the aim of the study. If participants know what
>my aim is it will inevitably prejudice their response.
>
>What I can say is that I am looking at how the advice people give is
>influenced by difference situations. Participants in the study have a
passive
>role play task to complete on the Internet. I don't need a representative
>sample of the population - just people willing and able to do the task.
>
>I'd be delighted too if all of you would consider being a participant and
>passing on the webaddress of the study site to your friends and collegues.

>And I'd be grateful for any advice you can give on attracting participants.
