I have just been trying to register with the Austin Statesman to read Karen
Armstrong's interview which looked interesting but to no avail. I saw it
discussed in talk.origins as she has been at UT. But the reason for Karen
Armstrong coming into my mind in relation to Ratzinger was that the theme of
her next book is to be that religions when they are under pressure resort to
fundamentalism. And no religion is under more pressure than the Catholic
Church in Europe hence bring in the Enforcer. The CC is probably under
pressure in the US from evangelism (as it is in South America) but I dont
know about that. So Karen Armstrong's thinking may disclose the reason for
this suicidal gesture in electing Ratzinger. But at 78 G-d may decide a
speedy end to this experiment is necessary.
