Dear Harold
firstly, please be reminded that i used the word 'focus' to describe the differences between philosophy and design.
I might not want to assume that philosophy of design tends to make me see things as true or false. This is an option. I choose it. And I might take a different view and see that philosophy of design, as you mentioned in the previous post, CAN deal with what design can be. but when i read Philosophy of Technology, for example, this doesn't seem to be the key approach or style that is employed.
what i find exciting about the idea of 'a design of design' is that we in Design Research don't need to do philosophy of design to generate useful knowledge. we can focus on what design can be, using language already used within design practice/theory to move us toward intelligent actions. we create knowledge for design and discourse then in a design(erly) way.
for example, in a design of design, we might talk about 'design as service' as what opportunities this proposal affords us. which context is suitable for this proposal and which is not. what are the more specific ideas that can be constructed under this proposal. and how might this be realized in action....this set of questions might require abstract thinking, reading difficult philsophical texts...but they are very design(erly) and in my opinion much more suitable for Design Researchers to pursuit.
i look forward to the day when professional philosophers would like to do design of design and read designerly texts and find inspirations.
Rosan
p.s. thanks again for the discussions, i learn a lot too, but might be more about what i think on these issues.
