Dear all,
Does anyone - especially NHS colleagues - have a policy for testing NHS
staff for blood borne virus infections if they have potentially exposed
a patient to their own blood. An example would be a surgeon who cuts
themselves on an instrument whilst operating and bleeds into the
patient's body cavity.
This testing is now mentioned in the 'Blue Book' 2005 but I am a bit
concerned that if we were to be involved with any testing that this may
put employees off from reporting their injuries in the first instance
thus leaving themselves and patients at risk of transmission of
infection.
Any info would be warmly received.
