Music PhD Studentships
Funding: One full studentship (tuition fees and maintenance at the
approximate AHRC level) and two 'fees only' studentships; one of the 'fees
only' studentships will be ring-fenced for a composer (courtesy of the
David Wynne and Eirwen Thomas Bequest).
Eligibility: Applicants should have a good honours degree in Music (or be
expecting to obtain one this year) and be a UK/EU citizen, or have been
resident in the UK/EU for at least three years for reasons other than
education. The studentships are tenable from September 2005.

Additional Information:
Cardiff University is a thriving centre for Music with excellent library,
IT and archival facilities. The School of Music was awarded a grade 5 in
the 2001 RAE. Its staff body has recognised strength in 20th Century
Central European and Slavonic Music, 20th Century British and French
Music, Composition and Music of the 'Long' 18th Century. These areas
intersect with other specialisms such as biographical and contextual
studies, the history and practice of performance, organology, sketch and
source studies, and analytical and theoretical perspectives. The School
supports two research centres: the Central European Music Research Centre
and the Centre for Research into Historically Informed Performances.
