Call for Papers
Royal Musical Association annual conference presented in association with
IAML UK&Irl (the International Association of Music Libraries, Archives
and Documentation Centres, UK and Ireland Branch).
Manchester University, 4-6 November 2005
(Events on the afternoon of Friday, 4 November, will be in the Henry
Watson Music Library; thereafter they will be in the Martin Harris
Building, University of Manchester, namely the university's new facility
for music and drama. The conference will continue to late afternoon on
Sunday, 6 November and will include a concert on the Friday evening by the
university's newly appointed quartet, the Quatuor Danel from Belgium. The
Peter Le Huray memorial lecture will be given by Prof. John H. Roberts of
the University of California at Berkeley and will reflect Manchester's
Handel holdings; the Dent Medal lecture will be given by Dr Daniel Chua of
King's College, London.)
All topics will be welcome, but themes of the conference will include:
*Libraries, Archives or Documentation Centres as used for musicological
study
*Local history of music in the British Isles: musical activity at local
level as a subject for research; the role of library collections;
recording and promoting holdings as source material; identifying future
projects
*The history of computers, technology and the industrial heritage used
for music -- to include the history of computer music as well as the use
of computers for access and analysis
200-word proposals for 20-minute papers should be sent by 1 July to Dr

Proposals for round-table sessions and study groups (1.5 hours) should be

It is hoped that all decisions will be communicated well before the end of
July.
