ROYAL NORTHERN COLLEGE OF MUSIC
CENTRE FOR EXCELLENCE IN DYNAMIC CAREER BUILDING FOR TOMORROW'S MUSICIAN
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES FOR RESEARCH FELLOWS
Three posts: (Job Ref. CETL 4) – all posts 5 year fixed term
Salary: GBP20-GBP30k - dependent upon qualifications and experience
The Royal Northern College of Music has been successful in obtaining
significant funding from the Higher Education Funding Council for England
(HEFCE) to establish a Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning
(CETL). This funding will enable the RNCM to build upon its international
profile in training musicians, enhancing employability for music students
by nurturing highly skilled, versatile and self-reflective practitioners,
poised to become the music leaders of tomorrow. The creation of a
sustainable Centre for Young Musicians within the CETL will address
national imperatives in music education by broadening teaching skills and
fostering pedagogical research, providing an infrastructure for the
College to share and embed innovative practice in teaching and learning
across the HE sector and beyond.
As part of the CETL initiative we are looking to appoint three Research
Fellows who will work within the College’s Research Centre for the
Vocational Training of Musicians (RCVTM). It is essential that applicants
have a proven record of scholarship and research at a level of
national/international recognition or the clear promise of such
achievement. Of particular interest will be candidates working within
disciplines such as music psychology, music pedagogy, music sociology,
performance studies and practice-as-research. Successful candidates will
be expected to contribute towards the thriving research life of the
College and the strategic evolution of the RCVTM. Responsibilities will
include the conduct and publication of research projects, organisation of
seminars, workshops and conferences and teaching duties as appropriate. It
would be advantageous to have some experience of e-learning and an
understanding of the nature of conservatoire education and training.
