Incoming Fellowships to the UK from Asia
The Royal Society's Incoming Fellowships Programme aims to foster
science and technology links between the UK and various countries
throughout the world, enabling young and outstanding postdoctoral
scientists to conduct cutting-edge research with their UK counterparts.
The Asian countries which the fellowship programme includes are: China,
India, Japan, South Korea and South East Asia (Brunei, Burma (Myanmar),
Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and
Vietnam).
Eligibility
Applicants must be of postdoctoral or equivalent status at the time the

an application. If successful, the award will only be given subject to
the confirmation of his/her PhD at the time when the award is taken up.
Applicants must be nationals of the country from which they are applying
and should be resident and working in the country of nationality.
Priority may be given to applicants with less experience of having
worked abroad. Applicants currently in the UK are not eligible to apply.
UK hosts must be British or EU citizens resident in the UK. Non-UK/EU
citizens must have held a permanent position at a UK institute for three
years minimum to act as a host.
Candidates for the fellowship programme will need to have identified and
contacted a UK host institution prior to submitting an application and
substantial contact between host and applicant prior to the application
is essential. This contact should lead to a clearly defined and
mutually-beneficial research proposal.
English Level: All applicants must be competent in oral and written
English. The UK host should verify they are happy with the level of
English of the applicant in the application form where this is requested.
Length of visit
The Royal Society will provide funding for visits of between six months
minimum and up to 12 months maximum.
Host institutions
UK hosts should be based at any UK research institution. Scientists
working in governmental research institutes are not necessarily excluded
from acting as hosts but they should explain, in a separate email, why
their parent institute is not funding the visit.
Value of award
The Royal Society will provide funding to cover the visiting scientists
cost of living in the UK. This includes food, accommodation and local
travel. The award does not cover international travel to and from the UK.
