Dear Colleague,
Please find hereafter the 2nd announcement and Call for Papers for the
SOLEIL Workshop HR-2005 on High Resolution in the gas phase (see also
<http://www.synchrotron-soleil.fr/workshops/high-resolution_march2005/>http://www.synchrotron-soleil.fr/workshops/high-resolution_march2005/).
Thank you for advertising it around your group/institution.
The registration and abstract submission are now available online.
We are looking forward to seeing you in Orsay in March.
Best regards,

SOLEIL Workshop
"New trends in gas phase VUV/soft X-ray high resolution spectroscopies at
SOLEIL"
21st & 22nd March 2005
Université Paris-Sud (Orsay, France)
Amphithéâtre "Pierre Lehmann" - LAL, Bât. 200
SOLEIL, the new French synchrotron radiation facility, will provide the
diluted phase scientific community with the most advanced (brilliant,
variably polarized and highly monochromatic) tunable light sources in the
VUV (DESIRS beamline: 5 - 40 eV) and soft X-ray (PLEIADES beamline: 35 -
1000 eV) ranges, respectively. These two beamlines will be mostly devoted to
high resolution absorption, fluorescence, electronic and ionic
spectroscopies. They will be equipped with permanent end-stations and newly
designed high resolution spectrometers (e.g. Fourier Transform absorption
set-up, electron and ion spectrometers possibly operated in coincidence
modes) available to the users. The expected ultra-high resolving powers,
resulting from new conceptual developments of the sources (100000 to 200000
in the VUV and 15000 to 55000 in the soft X-rays) as well as the electron
and photon spectrometers (500 000 at 20 eV in absorption with the FT
spectrometer) clearly offer new opportunities in valence and inner-shell
high resolution spectroscopies.
The scope of the workshop is to update the scientific cases of the two
beamlines and to structure the potential user community by exploring the
present and future topics of research in spectroscopies and photon-induced
dynamics (excitation and decay) of atoms, molecules, radicals, ions and
clusters. Issues of interest for astrophysics, atmospheric photochemistry,
plasma physics and metrology will be addressed. The links between high
spectral resolution studies in the diluted and condensed matter (surfaces,
solids) will also be investigated. Emphasis will be given to recent
theoretical developments for the interpretation of high resolution measurements.
We were happy to receive expressions of interest from many scientists. We
launch now the call for paper submission for poster presentations and a few
selected oral presentations. If you intend to make a contribution, please
submit your abstract via the online registration form before January 31st
2005. If you want to attend the workshop without making a contribution we
are inviting you to formally register on the workshop web site before
February 28th 2005.
More information, including preliminary scientific program, will be
available on the workshop website:
