Post Doctoral Position in Remote Sensing Data Retrieval at the Waterloo
Centre for Atmospheric Sciences
This position involves the retrieval and analysis of infrared
spectroscopic measurements from remote sensing (including satellite-based)
instruments. The focus of the work is the identification and
characterization of atmospheric clouds and aerosols, with particular
emphasis on polar stratospheric clouds, cirrus clouds and aerosols in the
free troposphere. This is an extension of the successful work reported in
Zasetsky et al., “Characterising Atmospheric Aerosols from IR
Measurements: Simulations, Testing and Applications”, Applied Optics, 43
(29) 5503, (2004) and “A new method for the quantitative identification of
the composition, size and density of stratospheric aerosols from high
resolution IR satellite measurements”, Geophysical Research Letters 29(22)
28 (2002). Preference will be given to candidates with experience in
remote sensing data retrieval and analysis.
The WCAS is a group of approximately 25 students and Post Doctoral Fellows
working in laboratory aerosol studies, atmospheric modelling and remote
sensing methods at the University of Waterloo. Further information on the
technical aspects of the work involved in this project may be obtained
from Professor J.J. Sloan, WCAS Research Director ([log in to unmask] ;

The WCAS is located at the University of Waterloo
(http://www.uwaterloo.ca/) in the Kitchener-Waterloo urban area
(http://win.uwaterloo.ca/win/), which has a population of approximately
250,000, and is surrounded by a pleasant, mostly agricultural, rural
region.
