Postdoctoral and graduate student positions in theory of ultracold molecules
Theoretical Chemistry, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
One postdoctoral and several graduate student fellowships will be available
to support research work with Roman Krems at the Department of Chemistry of
the University of British Columbia. The focus of the theoretical research
will be on methods to create and thermally isolate (or trap) molecules at
temperatures less than 1 Kelvin, dynamics of inleastic collisions and
chemical reactions of molecules at temperatures near absolute zero and
mechanisms to control dynamics of molecules at subKelvin temperatures with
external electric and magnetic fields.
The field of ultracold molecules is rapidly expanding.
For the most recent overview of the field, see the editorial review in
the European Physical Journal D 31, 149 (2004) or the review article
in the upcoming issue of Int. Rev. Phys. Chem., both accessible at
http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/~rkrems/EPJD2004/
Details of our research can be found at
http://www.chem.ubc.ca/faculty/krems
The University of British Columbia is ranked as one of Canada's top Universities.
Prerequisites: A successful postdoctoral candidate will know quantum and
classical mechanics, scattering theory, quantum chemistry, quantum optics and
will have had extensive experience of Fortran programming in addition to a PhD
degree in physical chemistry, AMO physics or related discipline.
UBC postdoctoral fellows must have had a PhD degree for less than three years
at the time of appointment.
Prospective graduate students will have to be admitted to UBC.
For information on admission standards and application deadlines/procedure, visit

Inquiries and applications should be directed to Roman Krems:

The UBC is among the largest and most beautifully located research Universities
in Canada. Vancouver's natural assets and temperate climate make it one of the
best cities in the world in which to live. The annual quality of life survey
released by Mercer Human Resource Consulting in the past two years placed
Vancouver third in world.
