An update on the message sent on Friday by Chris Smart.
On Friday 9th September, as a result of a sudden and sever local storm,
the sewer under the LRC flooded back in to the ground floor at the
counter.
The LRC at Roehampton will therefore be out of use until Thursday 15th
September at the earliest. This is to enable specialist sewage
decontamination to take place. From Thursday we hope to have temporary
access arrangements in place to use the upper floors of the LRC which
have not been damaged.
The good news is that the vast majority of the book stock has been
unaffected as the flood was very shallow. Most damage is to furniture
and fittings. It is likely that the temporary access arrangements will
be in place for six to eight weeks, given the lead time to order new
flooring and have the counters rebuilt.
The University will be open for new and returning students at the start
of the academic year. Special arrangements are being made for PGCE
courses starting tomorrow.
Please advise anyone wishing to use our collections not to visit us
during the week 12th-16th September and to phone thereafter.
If your library is able to offer access to Roehampton students during
our closure next week we will be most grateful.
Thanks
Adam
