a) New Agreement for New Scientist Archive Online
--------------------------------------------------

Eduserv Chest is pleased to announce that an agreement for New Scientist Archive Online is now available.

The agreement is with Reed Business Information and was negotiated in response to requests from the Community. The agreement provides online access to the current magazine and over 10 years worth of archived editions of New Scientist, plus the entire Inside Science series.

New Scientist Online is an archive of a continually expanding library of news, analysis, facts and figures covering life sciences, physics, earth & environmental sciences, maths and technology. It contains the complete text of every article, plus over 5000 graphics, from over 10 years of New Scientist magazine.

Annual pricing is £1300 for HE sites and only £300 for FE, with quarterly prorated charging in the first year. This price includes Athens access, currently being implemented by Reed.

Full details can be viewed at <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/datasets/new-scientist/ <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/datasets/new-scientist/> >

b) Extension agreed to The Chest Agreement with CM Education
--------------------------------------------------------------

The Chest Agreement with CM Education for their vocational online resources was recently extended to run for an additional 3 years
to 31st March 2008.

Any Sites that purchased a licence to access CM Education's online resources via Chest before October 2004 will need to complete new licence
forms if they would like to continue accessing these resources after 31st March 2005, otherwise access will stop.

Currently licensed Sites whose licences will expire on 31st March 2005 have been contacted directly with details of their current licence
and what they need to do to renew.

Chest is very pleased to be able to announce that pricing for existing products has been frozen at its current levels under the extended Agreement. As the Agreement, and any renewed licences, will run until 31st March 2008 this means prices will have been held at the same level for six years.

The extended Agreement covers a range of new products from CM Education which can be added to your licence. These include a range
of Level 2 products suitable for those studying at GCSE level and packages of complementary Level 2 (GCSE) and Level 3 (AVCE,BTEC,
OCR) products.

Subscribers currently using the AVCE package will automatically be given access to A2/AS or BTEC as a replacement.

In addition to these, two new LAW products will be available from CM Education summer 2005 for GCSE and A2/AS, and it is intended that these will be added to the Chest Agreement once they are available.

Details of the Agreement, including terms and conditions, full product and pricing information and instructions on how to purchase a new licence, can be found here: <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/datasets/citymutual/ <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/datasets/citymutual/> >

If you have any queries, please contact Tim Hobday 01225 403225 <mailto: <mailto:[log in to unmask]> [log in to unmask] <mailto:[log in to unmask]>> >

c) Call for expressions of interest in Bibliographic Databases from RLG
------------------------------------------------------------------

Chest is interested in hearing from sites which might like to participate in a one year trial consortium arrangement to subscribe to a selection of bibliographic databases from the RLG Eureka collection. The databases will be of interest to those studying the arts, social sciences and humanities.

UK Site licences are not yet available for these databases; they are currently licensed for a number of simultaneous users. To give sites an opportunity to subscribe to the databases for one year Chest is proposing to form a consortium where the subscribers will share a number of simultaneous users. This model is commonly used in other countries and we believe will provide a cost effective opportunity to access these resources. The actual price each subscribing institution pays will depend on the level of interest we receive and the number of subscribers. Indicative pricing per site for 10 or 20 participating sites are given below and represent significant savings on an individual institution subscription. Usage statistics will be available to all participants and will be monitored closely and reviewed regularly.

Under this proposal 6 databases will be offered; sites will be able to subscribe to one or more database. Below there are brief descriptions as well as a link to more detailed descriptions provided by RLG:

Anthropology Plus
- the world's most comprehensive index of bibliographic materials from the late 1800s to today in the fields of social, cultural, physical, biological, and linguistic anthropology; ethnology, archaeology, folklore, and material culture; and interdisciplinary studies. Annual Price: 10 sites £1100 per site, 20 sites £860 per site.

Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals
- indexes 2,500+ periodicals published worldwide on architecture, urban design, historic preservation, urban planning history, city planning, interior design, and archaeology. Annual Price: 10 sites £820 per site, 20 sites £640 per site.

Bibliography of the History of Art
- the most comprehensive art bibliography worldwide, covering European and American visual arts from late antiquity to the present. Annual Price: 10 sites £1010 per site, 20 sites £780 per site

FRANCIS
- indexes multilingual, multidisciplinary information published in over 4,200 journals covering the humanities (67%), social sciences (30%), and economics (3%). Annual Price: 10 sites £930 per site, 20 sites £720 per site

History of Science, Technology, and Medicine
- integrates four separately created bibliographies to create the definitive international bibliography for the history of science, technology, and medicine and their influence on culture, from pre-history to the present Annual Price: 10 sites £840 per site, 20 sites £650 per site.

RLG Cultural Materials
- a multimedia collection of digital versions of manuscripts, photos, art, historical documents and memorabilia, and more, brought together from around the world. Annual Price: 10 sites £2380 per site, 20 sites £1900 per site

More detail can be found here <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/general/rlg_databases.doc <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/general/rlg_databases.doc> > or on the RLG web site <http://www.rlg.org/en/page.php?Page_ID=601 <http://www.rlg.org/en/page.php?Page_ID=601> >

Sites will have the opportunity to use the Eureka® web-based search interface suitable for both novice and experienced users. It is anticipated that Athens authentication will be implemented.

Free 30 day trial by sending a request to <http://www.rlg.org/trial <http://www.rlg.org/trial> > citing Chest as the source of your enquiry.
If the response is successful then Chest will be seeking to either renew the consortium arrangement or negotiate an agreement with individual institution subscriptions. We will keep all participants informed.

Please submit your comments on this proposal by submitting this form

d) News about UK Official Publications
-------------------------------------

Last we year we requested expressions of interest in a proposal for a site licence agreement for UKOP from TSO. Unfortunately, we are unable to pursue this at this stage.
