d) CD/DVD Burning
------------------

During the summer Eduserv Chest has been investigating the possibility of supplying software under a standard agreement. Our research has revealed that sites are using the software for audio customization, video editing, image & photo management and for data backup purposes as well as the primary purpose of CD or DVD burning. Most sites that have contacted Chest recently appear to have copies of software bundled with the hardware and are looking for an appropriate upgrade in order to provide the same version site-wide. Despite early interest from 22 sites Chest has been unable to establish sufficient evidence to proceed with negotiations with suppliers and are unable to pursue an agreement in the foreseeable future. Please continue to keep us informed about any interest in this type of software. The situation could change and we may re-visit it sometime in the future.

Thank you to all sites who have contributed to our research. Feedback from sites is vitally important to us.

e) RefWorks update
------------------

The second year of a three year Agreement for RefWorks has just begun (1st November). RefWorks is a Web-based bibliography and database manager that allows users to create their own personal database by importing references from text files or online databases. They can use these references in writing their papers and automatically format the paper and the bibliography in seconds. Access is via Athens Authentication.

Eduserv Chest is currently in negotiation with RefWorks to add their new product, RefShare to the Agreement. RefShare provides RefWorks users with a quick and easy way to share their research information, further enhancing collaborative research. Users can share their RefWorks references with both members of their own institution and globally with any researcher having Internet access.

Further information about the RefWorks agreement is available at <http://www.eduserv.org.uk/chest/datasets/refworks/>. If you are interested in a trial of RefWorks and RefShare please contact <mailto:[log in to unmask]>
