Developing Skills for Study in Higher Education
Wednesday 28th June 2006, 10-5pm
University of Wolverhampton, City Campus (South)
CALL FOR PAPERS (by 31st January 2006)
This International Conference is the result of collaboration between the
Centre of Excellence in Learning and Teaching and the school of Humanities,
Languages and Social Sciences (at the University of Wolverhampton).
The challenges facing students in higher education are increasing year on
year. Students need to develop a wide range of skills to cope with a wide
range of assessment tasks, and to cope with the information explosion. One
of the ways that higher education is responding to this situation is by
recognising the need for extensive and specialised support for students to
develop the necessary skills for successful study.
This conference seeks to bring together academics from a wide range of
backgrounds to share perspectives and initiatives on study skill
development. We hope to receive papers from education developers, subject
lecturers, librarians, counsellors and all involved in the process of
supporting students to develop the skills they need to be successful.
Keynote lectures bring together tried and tested delivers of skills support:
Jo Landsberger, University of St.Thomas Minnesota (USA), author and
maintainer of The Study Guides and Strategies web site
(http://www.studygs.net/index.htm)
Andrew Northedge, Open University (UK) author of The Good Study Guide
(1990 - updated 2005)
The City Campus (South) is five minutes walk from the Wolverhampton Railway
station. Use this link to access travel information:
