Dear All
Just to back up what Jane and Alison have said - discussions are
underway with the JISC about the future of INFORMS. There is absolutely
no doubt that INFORMS is heavily used across the country, with nearly 50
institutions now incorporating it into I.L. programmes of one sort or
another. The JISC are persuaded of the importance of this resource and
are working with us to secure its future.
The preferred option of the scoping project group is for the RDN to
adopt INFORMS as a national resource. The RDN is currently considering
the feasibility of this and will make a decision in 2 weeks time.
Should this prove a non starter there are other options to explore. In
the meantime Huddersfield will continue to support INFORMS, until July
2006.

We're aware at Huddersfield of the increased use of INFORMS, and
discussions are taking place to secure its future. We hope an
announcement will be possible in a few weeks time.
We are continuing to support INFORMS at present. If you have any
technical problems with INFORMS please contact Dave Pattern

We have talked about this very thing at our e-learning working group,
and we would all support this.
We have spent a lot of time developing INFORMS tutorials which we use in
taught sessions, as well encouraging students to use them for
themselves. We would obviously lose all this work if INFORMS were to
fold, but more to the point, I think the students would also lose a
valuable tool.
