Hi Maureen

We have been using WAM for the past year and have 8 databases such as
perfect analysis and british standards online which only work via Athens.
We also have a small number of databases which require an additional
database specific password to get into e.g. british standards.

Have a look at our catalogue at http://lispac.lsbu.ac.uk/ and do a database
search http://lispac.lsbu.ac.uk/search~S7 for the above and you'll see how
we have dealt with the situation. Each database has a catalogue record and
all IP controlled databases work with WAM - although the setup can sometimes
be a little quirky.

Students can still use athens accounts and we are moving over to AthensDA
this autumn. The stats from athens I would say are more reliable - WAM
stats are based on the number of times the proxied link is clicked and this
does not necessarily equal the times a genuine user actually logged in and
used it.

Hope that helps,

Subject: Access/authentication question

Another query from me on WAM and Athens. In the past we have created Athens
accounts for all students * via the bulk upload facility. We are going live
with WAM before the beginning of term and we are wondering whether we need
to create Athens accounts for all. As far as I can see at the moment the
only supplier which does not offer IP control is Butterworths's. Also
Digimap requires an Athens account. Therefore only law and geography
students (at Edge Hill) will require Athens accounts. I am concerned that I
have overlooked something. I am assuming that all resources which can be IP
controlled can be accessed off campus using WAM but..
My questions:
If you use WAM, do you still create Athens accounts for all students *
whether personal or using Athens DA?
Do you have any resources, which offer IP access BUT do not work with web
access management?
Any thoughts/suggestions most welcome
Maureen
