Maureen,
If I understand what you are doing correctly this can be done in Millennium
via the 'portable scanner' option but there are a few pre-requisites.
First, am I correct in thinking that you have a text file listing 13,000
barcodes and you simply want to load them into Millennium in order to do a
status change?
If so:
Before you start ensure that no item records on your Millennium have IUSE3 set
>0 (you may wish to run an item list on this to check).
a)Make sure your MilCirc has 'Portable Scanner' mode enabled (if missing, the
answer may be that it is a separate product or just a case of adding it from
the manager-controlled options); the icon should appear in the modes list on
the left colulmn of MilCirc (you may wish to link this to a non-circ login and
link via the control bar if you want to prevent circ staff from trying to use
it).
b)Use 'Replace' on your text file to prefix each barcode with c: and ensure
that each is on a separate line in the text file (use Word, Excel or notepad
but ensure the resulting file is .txt or .csv NOT .doc or .xls)
c)Go to portable scanner and then 'iuse3'
d)Click 'process' and allow the system to find the text file on your PC (you
may have to help it find the correct folder); click on the file and 'open'
e)Millennium will report on any barcodes in your file which are not found in
your Millennium database as it processes them - note them down (there is no
'error log' - or at least I haven't found one).
f)Your file should now be loaded and all the barcodes in the file will have
IUSE3 set to 1. That is all this function does.
g)Create an item list for IUSE3 > 0 and then use rapid update to change the
status to 'on loan' (or similar) and revert IUSE3 back to 0
[I'm not sure what you are going to do about recording patron info for these
records nor even whether you can rapid update status - but you could try a
small test file]. It may be that you want to create a separate status 'On loan
-GEAC' or similar so that you can identify them (or remnants) at some future
point if necessary. I'd also suggest you try returning a test item from the
list to make sure the system can cope with this in a live situation before
changing all 13,000.
I've written this from memory but I hope it helps (and works).
Best wishes,
Martin
