We've recently turned our attention to the webpub.def file
(this is the file that controls the labels and the item
display table in the Web OPAC). One interesting difference
between that and the default set up by III (which we don't
have access to) is the display of volume information in the
item table:
LOCATION CLASSMARK LOAN TYPE STATUS
Main Lib P330.5 Vol. 1 PERIODICAL DUE 8/2/05
It is comparatively easy to set up an item
table column for volume which is fine provided you are
looking at a serial part or monograph with numbered
volumes. Otherwise, it is just a blank column which we'd
rather not have:
LOCATION CLASSMARK VOL LOAN TYPE STATUS
Our default places the Vol/Part number beside the classmark
(in the same box) and we note most other sites (UK and
elsewhere) have the same arrangement.
Have any of you found a way of putting this into the
webpub.def file viz the line:
i|C|||Classmark|25|b
I understand from III that it may not be possible for sites
to set this themselves but has anyone managed to set this
in an active webpub.def file? I can't find any success
stories in any of the user group list archives.
Thanks,
Martin
