Hi,
Christmas has come early! I thought a number of you might be interested in
the following news.
I recently discovered that Lawrence Erlbaum had begun the digitization of
some of its backfiles. As many publishers are separating out
subscriptions/purchase to their backfiles from subscriptions to the "recent
content", I was curious to discover whether access to the LEA backfiles was
going to be available to current subscribers. I am pleased to announce to
this list that LEA are going to be offering access to all available back
volumes to current subscribers from 2006. This benefit will remain as long
as a current subscription is maintained in subsequent years. In the event a
subscription lapses, electronic access will remain for only the subscription
years purchased. The information at: http://www.erlbaum.com/journalinfo.htm
has been updated to reflect this policy.
I've been informed that backfile access for subscribers will begin in 2006
as soon as Lawrence Erlbaum receives renewals and new 2006 orders. Because
it can take time to get all orders processed it is likely that subscribers
will have access to the available backfiles by the end of the 1st quarter of
2006. Subscribers can contact the LEA technical support team at

I understand that the LEA production team is to digitize as much content as
possible. So far the following journals have been fully digitized:
Cognitive Science (waiting on a few issues) International Journal of
Aviation Psychology International Journal of Behavioral Medicine Mass
Communication and Society Journal of Education for Students Placed at Risk
Journal of Consumer Psychology Journal of the Learning Sciences Journal of
Public Relations Research Human Computer Interaction International Journal
of Human-Computer Interaction Professional School Psychology Review Applied
Neuropsychology
There are some journals that LEA does not own the copyright for the older
issues, so these will not be able to be digitized.
I would like to personally thank Lawrence Erlbaum for implementing a simpler
subscription model (up to now subscribers only had access to the years they
paid for) and providing access to all available online backfiles to current
subscribers as part of that new subscription model. This is in contrast to
many other publishers where the "archive backfiles" have to be purchased or
leased separately (often only in the form of subject-based archive
collections) from the rest of the subscription.
Cheers
Lesley
