Hi,
First of all may I thank the many people who emailed me off list - it
appears I am not the only one who has been trying to seek clarification re:
institutional access to these titles.
I've now had it confirmed by Elsevier that institutional online access to
the "Clinics" journals is currently unavailable and that online access is
only available to personal subscribers via http:// www.theclinics.com.
Elsevier have apologised for any inconvenience this may cause. They have
informed me that "solutions for online access to the clinics titles for
institutions are currently being investigated and hopefully this will be
introduced in the future".
I have also been informed that I may be able to get access to these titles
via MD Consult at: http://www.mdconsult.com/ and I have now emailed them at:
[log in to unmask] for further information. However, one of
the list members has informed me that you can't purchase individual Clinic
titles, but that they have to be accessed via a couple of "pricey" packages.
Can I ask that Elsevier please consider making these journals available
through ScienceDirect, and to inform relevant institutional subscribers if
such a decision is made.
I guess it's too late for 2006, so I have no choice, but to instruct our
agent to renew these once again as print only for 2006.
Cheers
Lesley

Subject: Elsevier Health Science Journals - The "Clinics" Journals - Are
They Available Electronically to Institutions?
Hi,
It's that time of year again when many of us are trying to provide renewal
instructions to our agents for the 2006 subscription year. It's a job that
is getting more and more time consuming each year.
Whilst many publishers information has been updated for the 2006
subscription year, there remain many sites where either the information is
either out of date (in some cases way out of date!) or impossible to locate.
Why do some publishers make it so hard for institutions to find the
information they need? Don't they want institutions to subscribe to their
journals?
We have institutional subscriptions to the following 3 Elsevier Health
Science Journals - The "Clinics" Journals:
Critical Care Nursing Clinics of North America
Nursing Clinics of North America
Radiologic Clinics of North America
We would desperately like to go online only with these titles as we have
finally managed with all our other Elsevier titles, but so far these three
titles have remained as print only.
If I visit the site for Critical Care Nursing Clinics of North America, I
find pricing information at: http://www.ccnursing.theclinics.com/pricing,
but nothing for institutions. I try and follow the link "Purchase an
Institutional Subscription Now" at:
http://www.us.elsevierhealth.com/product.jsp?isbn=0899-5885, but that
doesn't tell me anything about an institutional subscription. True I can
find a price, but I think it's for 2005, but it doesn't tell me what the
subscription includes.
I had the same problem last year, and in the end just gave up. I did try and
contact the publisher, but received no response.
Can anyone advise me as to whether these subscriptions are available e-only
to institutions or even as print plus online?
Cheers
Lesley
