Hi all,
let me try and clarify it once and for all:
- A CE needs to run a GRIS (port 2135). This still is done via globus-mds
at this time.
- A site needs to have a site GIIS. This service usually is provided by
the (main) CE. It used to be provided on port 2135 by globus-mds,
alongside the GRIS info. The MDS GIIS has more stability problems than
the MDS GRIS, so we particularly want to use a BDII for the GIIS.
The BDII uses port 2170 by convention. So your CE will listen on port
2135 for the GRIS, and on port 2170 for the GIIS.
- A site may want to set up its own top-level BDII. There is no fundamental
reason that such a BDII cannot be put on the CE, but the BDII code and/or
configuration currently is not prepared for having multiple BDIIs on the
same node (/opt/lcg/bdii is assumed to be used by a single BDII).
This means you cannot have a top-level BDII on the CE for now.
