Information about the department can be found at:
Applications (three copies marked with Ref.No. 04/13051) should be sent
to the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Attn: Tom
Caspersen, P.o.box 1032 Blindern, NO-0315 Oslo, Norway.
The postdoctoral position is a part of the project “Surface wave
tomography for Norway and adjacent areas” funded by the Research
Council of Norway. It aims at conducting a tomographic study of the
crust and upper mantle under Norway and adjacent areas using
seismological broadband recordings of surface waves and S-waves. The
project will complement on-going similar studies in the Arctic region,
in Northern Germany-Southern Sweden and in Finland. Data recorded at
permanent stations will be used in combination with data from two
mobile networks.
The candidate must have completed a PhD or equivalent degree in
seismology by the time of appointment and have experience with analysis
of broadband seismological data and/or tomographic methods. Experience
with surface wave data is an advantage.
Applications should include a statement of interest indicating a
preferred starting date, curriculum vitae, a list of published and
unpublished works and the names and addresses of two referees. One set
of certified copies of certificates should also be submitted.
The application should also include copies of the applicants’ three
most significant publications and a summary of the importance of these
works.
The main purpose of an appointment to a postdoctoral position at
universities and colleges is to qualify the holder for work in top
academic positions. For appointment the requirement is a doctoral
degree in Seismology. The University of Oslo is an equal opportunity
employer and seeks in particular to increase its number of female
scientists. Women are therefore particularly encouraged to apply.
