What is diegesis? I asked the same question on this list a few months back.
The answer (as I understood) was that the diegesis of a film was the world
(its events and things and people) that the film refers to, as opposed to
all the rhetorical machinery that is used to make this reference.
A couple of questions from me: Can anyone tell me where this meaning of
diegesis comes from? Is it from film theory, general narrative theory? Who
coined it? When?
