I risk being patriotic in my first mail to this group, but wanted to
point out the works of Dagur Kári, a young director from Iceland, who
weaves engaging and humorous films out of bored main characters. Nói
Albinói was his debut, his 2nd feature film is Dark Horse … A bout de
souffle meets with Danish humour …
but hasn't this been the biggest challenge of cinema in the last decade
or so – perhaps longer – to make engaging works out of utter boredom?
I'm thinking of Adaptation, mainly, as a milestone in screenwriting,
possibly the most amusing film ever to be made of utter ennui.
Filmmakers trying to sneak the boredom of existential honesty, into a
world that demands constant fun.
