Tessa, I would say that the whole, strange 'New Age' genre of mainly
dialogue-less montage films mixing up shots of nature, 'primitive
cultures', etc - from KOYANISQATSI to BARAKA and many, many others -
depend on this myth of universal language. These films are of course
very popular: they form almost an 'alternative circuit' of arthouse
cinema these days, but are rarely written about seriously. Perhaps
because they are so horrible to watch and endure !!!!!
