I am a research fellow based in the Department of Psychology, University of
Bath, currently working on a JISC funded review of e-science in education,
with Dr Danae Stanton Fraser. Danae's previous work includes involvement
with the Sense project
<http://www.informatics.sussex.ac.uk/users/hilarys/esci/> which explored
the potential for environmental sensing devices and GRID technologies to
improve school students' scientific enquiry skills, and Ambient Wood, a
field trip with 'a difference' where children had to discover, hypothesize
about and experiment with biological processes taking place within a
physical environment. See
<http://www.informatics.sussex.ac.uk/interact/projects/Equator/ambient_wood.htm>
I would be interested to hear of any projects, local, national or
international, which could be termed 'e-science' related, which might be
suitable for a mention in our review, or may be of interest to our ongoing
research in this area. We are interested in both small-scale teacher-led
projects, as well as larger scale funded university based and other
research. Also, we are working on a suitable definition for 'e-science' as
it relates to education for our current review, though the loose one that
we are going along with at the moment would go something like 'e-learning
in science with a collaborative aspect'. This may involve collaboration
between schools, or between school pupils and scientists. Again, any
comments on this definition, or alternative suggestions, from any source,
would be welcome. We are currently primarily interested in the 9-14 age
group.
Any information would be gratefully received.
Many thanks
