Dear All,
I hope you can help us with the following.
Many thanks

Marine Conservation Expeditions to Mexico
Global Vision International (GVI) is a UK based organization which places
over 500 individuals a year with international charities, non-profits and
research organizations who need assistance. In addition to placing
individuals with programs in 10 different countries, GVI provides funding
for research equipment, professional staffing and training. Our partners
include the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund International, Rainforest Concern and
the Mexican and South African Governments. GVI also works closely with
Global Park Exchanges (GPE) to source skilled individuals for National
Parks around the world.
“GVI comes highly recommended and their ability to screen, select and
place individuals is also held in high esteem” Kevin Moore, Director of
Social Ecology, South African National Parks.
The reef, which is the second largest barrier reef in the world and the
largest coral system within the Atlantic Ocean, stretches from the
northern tip of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, south through Belize and
Guatemala to the Bay Islands, off the coast of Honduras. Our research is
being supported by a number of not for profit organizations including:
• Amigos de Sian Ka’an (ASK)
• CONANP (National Commission for the Conservation of Natural
Protected Areas)
• University of Quintana Roo (UQROO)
• Reef Check
The initial research objective is the collection of coral reef
characterization and monitoring data in the northern part of the
Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, through SCUBA diving surveys. GVI’s main focus
area is the northern region of the reef, although surveying will take
place on other areas of the reef to assist in providing researchers with a
comprehensive picture of the ecological health of the northern region.
Individuals will be involved in coral reef and fish monitoring surveys,
land and sea based acoustic and visual marine mammal surveys, crocodile
and sea turtle nesting surveys, foreign tree specie clearing, training
local fishermen and assisting in the education and awareness programs at
local schools, hotels and in the open environment.
Participants need to be qualified to PADI advanced level, or equivalent,
in order to participate in the research at these sites. There is also an
opportunity for students to take a BTEC (Diploma) in Tropical Coastal and
Marine Conservation while they are on the project.
For those who are not already qualified divers, and who would like to
learn, GVI is conducting similar research at a site a little further along
the coast. This expedition allows individuals the opportunity to do
their dive training while in the field.
If you think that any of your members might be interested in joining this
project I would be very grateful if you could pass this email on to them
so that they may visit our website, http://www.gvi.co.uk or so they can
contact us directly on [log in to unmask] to request more information.
I sincerely hope that you can help our work in Mexico by assisting us in
our search for high quality individuals. If you have any further questions
please do not hesitate to contact me directly.
Thank you for your time.
Kind regards
Richard Walton
