I've known about this for some little while. A few people on this list might have interest in applying for it although the closing
date is very near unfortunately the actual text of the opportunity only came into my hands this weekend. Of a wider interest,
perhaps, is the subtext of the proposal or invitation, which says a lot more than it would mean to do. As well as for its stultified
and stultifying prose.
I intend to apply in as insulting and curmudgeonly manner as possible, just for the pleasure of hissing. Worth the price of a stamp
that little satisfaction. Here goes:
A TALE OF THREE CITIES
The Literature Development Officers of Nottingham, Derby and Leicester are setting up a new literature project supported by Three
Cities Create and Connect, funded via the Urban Cultural Programme.
A high profile Poet Laureate for the three cities has been secured, (love that verb - Dave) who will write a commissioned poem and
appear at three key live literature events - one during each City's Literature Festival later this year.
Several regional writers will be writing commissions and leading writing workshops, and an anthology will be published at the end of
the project in Spring 2006.
We need: (wait for it - Dave)
6 X REGIONAL WRITERS (FREELANCE - SINGLE FEE OF £800)
The Tale of Three Cities project seeks creative, talented and imaginative writers to help explore the shared identity of the cities
Leicester, Nottingham and Derby. We need six regional writers to the workshop phase of the project and contribute commissioned work
to the final anthology. Regional writers will also be expected to advocate on behalf of the three cities project and make occasional
media appearances.
Applicants should have professional experience within literature, knowledge of delivering a creative commission and experience of
running creative writing workshops in a community setting.
We are looking for applications from established and emerging writers with a real understanding of one or more of the three cities
and a genuine interest in developing that understanding through literature. This is a good opportunity for the writers involved to
develop their work creatively (like the adverb - Dave) and increase their profile regionally and nationally.
Closing date for applications is Fri 29 April. Interviews will take place on Fri 13 May in Derby. To apply send a current CV,
covering letter and short sample of your work to:
Damien Walter, Literature Development Officer Libraries, A12 New Walk Centre, Welford Place, Leicester, LE1 6ZG.
