I have inherited a policy whereby reference copies of planning applications made to the Council are retained by the Local Studies Library. Traditionally it seems that these have been assessed for usefulness and those deemed to be of particular interest have been retained and filed by address. These are not the original planning applications but the reference copies sent out by the Planning Department to the Library.
We are now running out of space to retain these reference copies and the accrual rate is such that we will not be able to keep future applications. My preference to stop accruing the applications and to get dispose of those we hold. Researchers will still be able to see the original applications at the planning department, although as that is in Hounslow they may grumble.
In order to get agreement fro this and to provide support should I be challenged I was wondering what the opinion was of colleagues who may or may not have been in a similar position. Do any other local studies services keep copy planning applications? If so how do you decide what to keep? If not why not?
Thanks in advance,
Catherine
