Archive Awareness Campaign grants from ALM London
ALM London is pleased to announce the launch of its grants programme for
the Archives Awareness Campaign 2005.
This year, we are targetting our grants to support the children's short
story competition, which will be at the centre of this autumn's campaign.
We are offering grants to archives to participate in the Young Cultural
Creators Schemes. The Scheme will bring school groups into an archive,
where they will meet a well-know children's author. The author will work
with the children to explore the archive in a way that will stimulate their
imagination and set them off creating their own piece of work. The children
will do further reserach in their local library and work in their
classroom. The scheme will culminate in a celebration where the children
will showcase their work to the author, archivists and librarians.
YCC schemes have been running since 2001 and have a strong track record of
fostering children's creativity, developing their literacy and introducing
them to the exciting collections of museums, libraries and archives.
The YCC team will match the school group and author with the archive, as
well as generating the teaching materials. The archive will contribute by
hosting or facilitating the visit by the school group, and providing access
to suitably inspiring materials from its collections. At the end of the
scheme, the archive will have developed a link with a school and a
children's author, as well as a body of curriculum-linked learning
materials that can be re-used or adapted in future projects. It is
therefore a really good opportunity for archives to access expertise to
develop their education programmes and to explore innovative ways of using
their collections.
ALM London invites applications from archives based in London. Weighting
will be given to applications from archives without dedicated education
staff, and to partnership applications from large and small archive
services.
