SEEING IS BELIEVING ~ FILM & SOUND ARCHIVES CONFERENCE
6th December
The BRITISH RECORDS ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE is taking the theme of audio-
visual archives and has invited the Society of Archivists Film and Sound
Group to assist in arrangement of the programme.
The conference will be an opportunity for delegates to discover the wealth
of audio-visual archives held in repositories throughout the country. It
will also examine the ways in which this material can be used for research.
The speakers will use examples of archive film and recorded sound to
illustrate the historical and cultural value of these often overlooked
forms of archival records, as well as the joy of discovering and using them.
Speakers include Crispin Jewitt director of the British Library Sound
Archive who will give an overview of the audio-visual archive field.
Margaret Mackay of the School of Scottish Studies Archives will speak on
the subject of Sound Archives. Patrick Russell of the BFI will discuss Film
Archives, using the fascinating Mitchell & Kenyon Films as his examples.
The day will end with the Maurice Bond Lecture delivered by Clyde Jeavons,
former curator of the National Film and Television Archives.
Further details are available from the British Records Association at the
above address.
