NORTH AND EAST YORKSHIRE & NORTHERN
LINCOLNSHIRE
STRATEGIC HEALTH AUTHORITY
In partnership with Hull York Medical School
DIRECTORATE OF CLINICAL POLICY AND PUBLIC HEALTH
MEDICAL STATISTICIAN
up to £32, 000
Subject to matching / evaluation under Agenda for Change
Position available from 01/04/05
This post presents an exciting opportunity for a medical statistician, to
establish and develop a statistics and research methodology support service
for staff in the NHS organisations of North and East Yorkshire and Northern
Lincolnshire. The service will be developed in close association with Hull
York Medical School, which is a partnership between the Universities of
Hull and York and local NHS organisations.
The overall aim will be to promote high quality research and to facilitate
protocol writing, grant applications, completion and publication of
work. The main focus of the job will be on provision of “on site” advice
sessions within NHS organisations, where the post holder will work closely
with, and be supported by, the R&D departments. In addition, the post
holder will be expected to develop and contribute to a variety of
educational activities designed, not only to train researchers, but also to
raise general research awareness.
The successful applicant will be a highly motivated and experienced medical
statistician. Good communication and presentation skills, both oral and
written, will be exceptionally important. We are looking for someone with
a positive and problem-solving approach, able to advise or teach in an
appropriate and sympathetic manner, not only those who have knowledge of
statistics but also those who have none at all.
The post holder will have office facilities within the NHS Research office
of the Alcuin Research Resource Centre on the University of York
campus. There will be regular sessions in Hull, York, Harrogate,
Scarborough, Scunthorpe and Grimsby, which will normally occupy 3 days per
week; occasionally travel to primary care sites within the area may be
necessary.
This is available as a full time post, however we are interested to hear
from individuals who can only commit to part time hours or who might be
interested in job sharing. An appropriate honorary academic appointment
will be sought for the successful applicant.
