Subject: Exam related questions
I am trying to collect information relating to the following for work I
am undertaking on 'exam congestion' and would be grateful for feedback
from colleagues. If you would like a copy of collated responses please
let me know and I'll send you a copy.
1) How may students are centrally scheduled exams arranged for each
year?
Approx. 11500.
2) How many exam periods to you hold each year and what are the
lengths?
3 main sessions - Semester 1, 2 wks in January; Semester 2, 3 wks
May/June; Resits, 1wk after August bank holiday
In addition we hold 'out of time' examinations during the year for some
programmes where the teaching timetable & examinations do not fall
neatly into the 2 semester year.
3) During the exam period, how many exam sessions per day do you hold?
2*3hr sessions and 3*2hr sessions.
4) How many exams are you scheduling in each exam period?
Around 750.
5) Do you run exams on the weekend?
Occasionally Saturdays for the bulk of exams however, we do organise
exams for Distance Learners who come into Salford over a weekend.
6) If you use weekends, what arrangements do you make for students who
are unable to attend for reasons relating to religious observation,
employment etc.
We require students to inform us in advance if they have any special
needs relating to religious observation so that we can ensure that it is
not necessary to hold examinations at inappropriate times.
7) Do you copy all exam papers 'in-house' or use an external
company/organisation?
All papers copied by our own Reprographics department.
8) If you are having papers copied externally have you encountered any
problems?
n/a
Thanks!
Sandra
