Our NNU currently carry out serum bilirubin testing on capillary heelprick samples using a bilirubinometer, which is QC'd daily and registered for EQA on a serum based scheme.
Their newly upgraded gas analyser has the capacity to measure bilirubin on the integral co-oximeter module and they are keen to make use of this, as they see a potential reduction in the number of heel pricks needed. What are people using to IQC bilirubin on gas analysers? Are you happy with using the values for 'bilirubin' that come with the gas QC ampoules? What is available to EQA this test, given that the analyser performs the test on haemolysed whole blood?
Thanks
