A bit out of your region, but try Klein's work in South Africa. He has done
a lot on tortoise and rock dassie (Procavia capensis) exploitation by Middle
and Late Stone Age people (possibly ancestral to the !Kung). Though the
rock dassies are most likely from raptor exploitation. Also, for very
recent work, try Schrire and Cruz-Uribe's 1991 (in the South African
Archaeological Bulletin) paper from the Dutch East India Company's outpost
in the South African frontier, which very heavily exploited small game
including small bovids.
