Research Opportunities in Cultural, Historical and Language Studies
The School of Modern Languages invites applications from candidates wishing
to pursue PhD research within the framework of the following projects:
Contact zones: Missions, camps and markets in German-Gypsy relations

Gender and the body in Latin American women's texts and films (Dr Claire

Edition and study of Book IV of Jean Mansel's Fleur des Histoires (Dr

Electronic transcription and edition of a 15th-century Spanish songbook

Perceptions of violence and peace: Key developments in Salvadoran
literature since the 1940s (Dr Astvaldur Astvaldsson:

'Les colonies cendrillon': French-language representations of the
Établissements and British India (Dr Ian Magedera: [log in to unmask])
Preference will be given to candidates who hold or expect to receive by
autumn 2005 an MA or equivalent qualification for a higher research degree.
Three University research studentships are available, and the School will
be happy to support applications for AHRB Studentships from suitably
qualified and interested candidates.
