I have noted, and I might even risk a guess that I'm not alone in this
and could even use a plural without being assumed to be either
presumptuous or regal, that email is a very insensitive medium.
Somehow, it lacks emotional finesse, and, for that matter, it seems to
lack sensitivity and courtesy as well. In other words, it's raw, crude,
rude. I try to remember that when writing, and also when reading
messages others write.
That being said, I really don't enjoy the tone of this list at the
moment. Maybe it's to do with the end of the northern hemisphere's
academic year. But I hear aggression, bitchiness, soapboxing,
self-righteousness and so on, and I feel uncomfortable. Of course, my
comfort is a minor matter not to be mentioned were it not for the fact
that we seem to have a lot of other people feeling much more
uncomfortable.
Perhaps we could take a break from scoring points, get off soapboxes,
instead addressing the threads that appear as they do appear (and not
let them degenerate into the same old positions being restated).
Otherwise there seems to me little point in reading what's coming
through at the moment, which appears to generate undesirable, and, no
doubt, undesired hurts.
Or am I was off the mark?
