Please no! I spend far too many hours a week filling in tedious forms.
I'm very grateful for the reduction in medical insurance forms I've seen
in recent years. I know we can charge for filling them in, but if I'd
wanted to be a glorified clerk I wouldn't have bothered going to medical
school. The money's not worth it.
Most private referrals are clinically justified, in which case I don't
begrudge them - after all it's part of my job. For the few that are
unjustified I either do a minimal "you should know this about my patient
who has referred themselves to you" letter or simply refuse.
