its not rave culture too narrow
I think the current couter culture is laptop - grown from
Dj/dance/club/rave/hip-hop culture.
Every dj, musician, and sound artist that is doing something interesting is
using a laptop
or colaborating with someone that is using a laptop.
Bang on the Can - collective from NYC constantly uses DJs and laptop artists
Sonic Youth - old punks now have a laptop artist in the band
Krafwerk - incorporated the laptop into thier live show
Its more than just the common tool everyone uses to edit and create media.
There are many programs and environents and peripherals that can be used
with the laptop to create new types of music sound and composition. These
unorthadox uses are what makes the couterculture so important.
These people hack the motion sensors in laptops for muscial uses, hack PSPs
to help distribute art films, make most of the short films and flash movies
scattered around the internet, and move the huge gaming market.
