Hi Ramona
(Long time no see!)
Not sure if I can help but you might have extra luck asking H-Film or Screen-L, neither of which have a shortage of buffs either. I can't say I've ever really believed the Bogart connection in A Bout de souffle for much the same reason. I always wonder if we'll find out one day if it was all a Parisian in-joke. There are endless stories about that film.
best
Damian
ps. And Joyeux Noël!

GODARD AND HUMPHREY BOGART
Sorry to come back to this, but I'm not sure how to go about this. I've now added a title to help clarify the subject of my query. I'm writing a book about Godard's A bout de souffle and I'd be really grateful for any suggestions from Godard and/or Humphrey Bogart fans. Here it goes:
Could anyone please tell me in which film(s) does Humphrey Bogart display his supposedly trademark gesture of rubbing his thumb across his lips - a gesture which Jean-Paul Belmondo's character mimicks in Godard's A bout de souffle (Breathless, 1960)? I've watched most of Bogart films of the 1940s and 1950s, but could not find anything remotely resembling this gesture that all film historians and critics mention as a typical 'Bogey' piece of acting.
Many thanks for your help.
Ramona
