Dear Colleagues,
As the South West and Wales regions of the Society of Archivists are
both far-flung, we have a tradition of holding occasional weekend events
to allow those with a considerable distance to travel an opportunity to
attend. The two regions, in association with Somerset Heritage Service,
are holding a weekend at Dillington House, near Ilminster, Somerset,
from Friday 11 November - Sunday 13 November 2005. Dillington House's
website can be found at: http://www.dillington.co.uk/.
The theme of the weekend is, 'The Archive of the Future,' and our
keynote speaker is Deborah Jenkins of the London Metropolitan Archive.
There are too many highlights to mention them all here, but they include
Deborah Tritton, Jackie Spence and David Thomas on electronic records,
whilst in a session on 'Tomorrow's Users', we will have a talk from Nick
Kingsley on changing relationships with depositors, a case study of
community archives in Cardiff, and a talk from Record Office users
themselves. We have been most fortunate throughout with the quality and
range of speakers who have agreed to participate.
We have a few places remaining which we would very much like to fill
(the closing date for bookings is Friday 29 October). Might you be
interested in joining us? The programme, booking form and letter of
invitation for the event can be found on the members' only section of
the Society of Archivists South West Region webpages at:
http://www.archives.org.uk/content.asp?id=278, or please do not hesitate
to contact me for further details.
