Analyser finally working and processing samples at 3.40pm - approx 72 hrs
Times have moved on from carrying a tray of samples in a taxi around central London to run on Vickers M300s or SMAs. It is relatively easy to take or send samples to colleagues nearby, especially here in SE London where 5 labs use the same type of immunoassay analyser and frequently need to support each other. Thanks to staff in Princes Royal Hospital, Farnborough and Queen Mary's Sidcup.
However:
1. Not all labs offer the same tests 24/7
2. It is difficult and slow to swap data on all but a few samples unless you have the same or linked IT systems.
3. Perhaps we need to rethink and use simpler technology which should be more reliable for the urgently required tests.
