Dear Colleagues,
In response to a number of requests I am attaching our laboratory
protocol for handling samples with delays between collection and
centrifugation.
As you can see this is limited to common clinical chemistry analytes.
The data is mainly based on local studies leaving blood at various
temperatures for varying times. The decision on what constitutes a
significant change (leading to with-holding of a result) has been
decided by myself on an analyte by analyte basis. I welcome any comments
as I am sure it can be improved upon. I believe it provides a very
useful guide to the lab staff to ensure a consistent and somewhat
evidence-based response.
Regards,
Graham
